Our adventures in Paducah history began with a few locations chosen to introduce the purpose of our explorations.
But in order to get the first week of school started off right …

We headed to Cracker Barrel here in Paducah. While we are out and about exploring the history of Paducah and nearby locations, we intend to sample the local dining locations.
After enjoying breakfast, we drove downtown for our first history stop. Well, there was one more little detour as we were sidetracked by a Geocache near our parking spot.

It was located at the Sam Houston House Park. You can check out our Discovery of that location here.
Alright, on to the main attraction… Exploration One!

This is the Post Office and Court House building at 501 Broadway St. Paducah’s colorful history from the time of the Chickasaw Indians through the age of steamboats and steam locomotives is depicted on a mural in side the building. This history and legend of our city was painted by local artists and presented to the United States Federal Court.
We thought we were headed for a regular Post Office building and were surprised by the signs that told us we couldn’t take our cell phones inside. As we entered we met security guards at the metal detectors! We asked for permission to take our phones in so that we could take pictures of the murals, and the guard had to call the judge to get permission for us! Crazy! But I am glad we stuck with it because the pictorial was a great overview of our city’s history.

Overall 6/10 – “Definitely a good pick; glad we came!” It’s a good way to start our Paducah History Adventures. #enjoypaducah #enjoylife
